Week 3 – Straight to the Heart

Ice Breaker:  Can you think of a time when you confessed or apologized to someone?  Were you glad you did?

1.    Proverbs 4:23.  Discuss.

2.    Who “completes” your heart according to Psalm 84: 1-2?

3.    Paul describes a “broken heart” in Romans 7: 21-24.  Read and discuss.

4.    Two causes of a broken heart:
     a.    Things we’ve done.   Are there things you’ve done that have left you heart broken?
     b.    Lies we believe:
          i.    What is our spiritual enemy, the devil’s, native language according to John 8:44?
         ii.    Have you ever believed this lie:  What I did is who I am.  Why is it a lie?

5.    Two cures for a broken heart:
     a.    Confess to God for forgiveness.  Discuss in light of 1 John 1:9.  
          i.    Why do we fear confession?  
         ii.    Why must we get over our fear?  Read Isaiah 43:25.

     b.    Confess to people for healing.  Discuss in light of James 5:16.
          i.    Can you think of a time this played out in your life?  When you “came clean” with someone you
                trusted and it led to healing? Tell the story.

     c.    Pride stops us from confessing……but in humility we find healing.  Discuss in light of Proverbs 28:13.
