LENT DAY 15

All or Nothing By Leah Wiens

“Undaunted Radiance” by Oswald Chambers

Nay, in all these things, we are more than conquerors through Him that loved us. (Romans 8:37)

Paul is speaking of the things that might seem likely to separate or wedge in between the saint and the love of God; but the remarkable thing is that nothing can wedge in between the love of God and the saint. These things can and do come in between the devotional exercises of the soul and God and separate individual life from God; but none of them is able to wedge in between the love of God and the soul of the saint. The bedrock of our Christian faith is the unmerited, fathomless marvel of the love of God exhibited on the Cross of Calvary, a love we never can and never shall merit....Undaunted radiance is not built on anything passing, but on the love of God that nothing can alter. The experiences of life, terrible or monotonous, are impotent to touch the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

I've come to realize in my life, that I tend to be an extremely "all or nothing" person. At times this has been beneficial to me, but at other times this tendency has been detrimental to my life, friendships and certainly my relationship with God. For example, if I feel things are going well in my walk with God, it's easy for me to accept that God loves me, and therefore it's simple to continue to put Him first in my life. On the other hand, if I make a mistake, or I feel as though I'm not living out my full potential, my tendency is to assume that my inadequacies have changed God's view of me, and I immediately want to want to and run from Him until I feel better about who I am. Romans 8:37 reminds me that although poor decisions can put a wedge between my life and God's desires for me, the things I do or do not do could NEVER separate me from one iota of God's love for me. He will always see me through the eyes of unconditional love.

Do you ever feel like God has started loving you a little less because of your behaviour? God has not taken his love from you; He is not angry. The 'bedrock of our faith" is His unmerited love.

Prayer: God, when we mess up, when we feel far from you, when we feel low or dark, or unworthy, help us not to run further into this darkness, but straight to you. Help us to remember that love is who you are, what you always want to give and all that we need to be victorious in any and every circumstance.
