Fight Club - Week 2

Sermon Notes

...and after you’ve done everything, you stand:

1.  Stand in GRACE

"God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God." - 2 Corinthians 5:21

Mercy:  Jesus paid the punishment my sins deserve.

Grace:  Jesus made me RIGHT.  I am as right as right can be right now.  When my enemy comes to tell me that God could never love someone like me because of what I’ve done, I stand on GRACE.

Grace says it’s not about what I do.  It’s about what Jesus already did.

I’m a saint, not a sinner.

I’m a child of God, not a spiritual orphan.  Grace says I’m as right as right can be right now.

2.  Stand in the GOSPEL

"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." - John 3:16

I am NOTICED even when the enemy tells me I’m forgotten.  God loves the WORLD and the world includes ME.  Our God is powerful, and He’s also personal.

I am LOVED.  God loved me and sent His Son for me.  He rescued me, He forgave me, He saved me, because He LOVES me.

I am VALUABLE.  When I am tempted to feel worthless I remember that the value of anything is determined by the price that was paid for it.  Jesus gave His life for me, so I’m valuable beyond measure.

3.  Stand in STRENGTH

Everything you needed to know, you learned in Sunday school.

Jesus Loves Me – Lyrics:

Jesus loves me! This I know,

For the Bible tells me so;

Little ones to Him belong;

They are WEAK, but He is STRONG!

Even when your world seems out of control, the death and resurrection of Jesus prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that God is in control.

4. Stand in FAITH

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight." - Proverbs 3:5-6

God is a Giver, not a taker.

When he says stand, you stand, because He has something for you.

When He says go, you go, because He has something for you.

When He says get baptized, you get baptized, because He has something for you.

God is a giver, not a taker.

5. Stand in FREEDOM

"It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery." - Galatians 5:1

Your enemy wants to show the bait and hide the hook, and when you fall to temptation, you can end up enslaved.  To addiction, or dysfunction, or regret.

God will lead you out of captivity and into freedom, one next step at a time.

6. Stand in UNITY

Your enemy has a plan for disunity.  He will slander us, so we might slander.  He will condemn us so that we might condemn.  He will accuse us so we might accuse.  He will hate us, so we might hate.

God’s got a better idea.  As we are loved, we might love:

"And yet I will show you the most excellent way.

If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast,but do not have love, I gain nothing.

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres." - 1 Corinthians 13:1-7

Your enemy has a plan for disunity.  He will slander us, so we might slander,  He will condemn us so that we might condemn.  He will accuse us so we might accuse.  He will hate us, so we might hate.

As we are forgiven, we forgive.

As we are blessed, we bless.

As we are loved, we love.

7.  Stand on Christ, THE SOLID ROCK

My hope is built on nothing less

Than Jesus' blood and righteousness;

I dare not trust the sweetest frame,

But wholly lean on Jesus' name.

On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand;

All other ground is sinking sand.

We stand not on the temporal, but the eternal King of Kings and Lord of Lords!
