Light it Up!
Reflector Vest

Ice Breaker: Can you think of three people God has placed in your life who you can invite to the Southside Christmas services this year?  (Dec.23 – 6:30, Dec.24 – 3:30, 5:00 and 6:30).

1. Because of Jesus, we do not fear:
     a. The darkness inside us. (Col. 1:27)
     b. The darkness behind us. (Psalm 103:12)
     c. The darkness before us.  (Deut. 31: 7-8)

2. In John 8:12, Jesus says He is the LIGHT OF THE WORLD! Ok, but what does He mean in Matthew 5:14-16 then?

3. Has God’s light changed your life? Do you reflect it to a watching world?

4. Mark 2: 1-12:

…when Jesus again entered Capernaum, the people heard that he had come home. 2 They gathered in such large numbers that there was no room left, not even outside the door, and he preached the word to them. 3 Some men came, bringing to him a paralyzed man, carried by four of them.

     a. If this dude wanted to see Jesus so bad, why didn’t he get himself there?
     b. Is there anyone you know who is unable to get to Jesus on their own? Why?

4 Since they could not get him to Jesus because of the crowd, they made an opening in the roof above Jesus by digging through it and then lowered the mat the man was lying on.

     c. These guys went to extraordinary lengths to get their friend to Jesus. Discuss.
     d. What lengths are you willing to go to in order to bring those people God has placed in your life to Jesus this
        Christmas?

5 When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralyzed man, “Son, your sins are forgiven.”

     e. Whose faith?
          i. If Jesus took pity on this paralyzed young man because His friends had the faith to bring him to the light of the
world, do you think Jesus would take pity on our city if a church full of people set about inviting people into an
authentic and deepening relationship with Jesus?
ii. Do you think your faith can turn the tide in someone’s battle with darkness?

6 Now some teachers of the law were sitting there, thinking to themselves, 7 “Why does this fellow talk like that? He’s blaspheming! Who can forgive sins but God alone?” 8 Immediately Jesus knew in his spirit that this was what they were thinking in their hearts, and he said to them, “Why are you thinking these things? 9 Which is easier: to say to this paralyzed man, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up, take your mat and walk’? 10 But I want you to know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins.” So he said to the man, 11 “I tell you, get up, take your mat and go home.” 12 He got up, took his mat and walked out in full view of them all. This amazed everyone and they praised God, saying, “We have never seen anything like this!”

     f. Try to describe this scene:

….I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents. (Luke 15:10)

5. Has God ever given up on you? Who do you need to REFUSE to give up on today?
